should be displayed in the right pane. Also present in the slider pane is an outlined box indicating which part of the page(s) is being displayed. The Adobe Reader slider is a great way to sift through the data and find the page you want. However, what if the document you re looking at has thousands of pages It would seem that the Adobe Reader slider pane has the same problem as all other sliders have it s easy to iterate 10, or maybe 100 pages, but beyond that the navigation gets tedious. The solution Adobe Reader implements is a dual slider. On the right side is a scroll bar, which has a much coarser iteration and allows you to quickly jump from page 1 to page 300. For larger documents, Adobe Reader will even tell you which page you are scrolling to. The dual scrolling method, where one slider is a coarse slider and the other is a fine slider, is extremely effective, because moving the coarse slider also moves the fine slider. An effective strategy is to use the coarse slider to get you in the neighborhood of the content you re interested in, and then use the fine slider to hone in on the exact content. Another approach of using a clickless navigation is http://www.dontclick.it, which is shown in Figure 6-12.

Calendar exceptionTime = Calendar.getInstance(); exceptionTime.set(Calendar.MONTH, 1); repeat.addExceptDate(exceptionTime.getTime().getTime ());

The following options are available regardless of the type of bind operation you are performing. These mostly include options for security and bind-time operations: -x: only allow communication if SSL is used

You can check to see what exceptions have already been added by calling getExceptDates() and remove an existing exception by calling removeExceptDate(long date). To query a previously created repeat rule, use the following methods. getFields() returns an array of all the fields that have been set. getInt(int field) retrieves a previously set field, such as the FREQUENCY or the DAY_IN_YEAR. getDate(RepeatRule.END) retrieves the specified end time. dates(long startdate, long subsetBeginning, long subsetEnding) allows you to provide a time window, and will return all of the repetitions that would occur within that window, excluding any exceptions. Once you have a RepeatRule configured the way you want it, call Event.setRepeat(RepeatRule repeat). This will replace any previously configured repeat rule. You can query an event s current repetition by calling Event.getRepeat(); this will return null if no repetition has been provided.

Figure 6-12. Clickless navigation example The http://www.dontclick.it site is a great example of how you can navigate without clicking. To understand its sophistication, it is best if you actually experience it yourself. The site implements the following types of clickless navigation:

-f: force the addition or removal of a configuration -v: process the command verbosely -i: run the command interactively, using passwords where needed

As with contacts, there are a variety of fields at your disposal when editing or reading event data. Table 6-5 displays all the fields supported on BlackBerry. Most of these are very simple, with a single nonarray nonattribute value provided. LOCATION is a single string, which is easier than providing a structured address but also makes it more difficult to parse an event s location. The special ATTENDEES field can have multiple values, one for each attendee. ALLDAY is a special convenience field that will convert the event into an all-day event, running from midnight GMT of the start date through midnight GMT of the end date.

The following is an example of a command to perform a trusted static bind, using the additional parameters and commands that you ve learned so far:
